Today is a precious day to our family. Not precious in a way that means sweet and fun, but more like heartbreaking, victorious and points us to our greater Hope.
Every year, March 23rd marks the day that Zekey’s suffering ended and his new life, free from the chaos of Batten Disease whole and complete in his Makers arms began.
It’s the day I will remember the relief I felt as his momma, knowing that Zekey’s suffering had ended and that he got to dance into the arms of Jesus, his Savior. It marks the day my momma’s heart changed forever…I trusted God with my baby more than having him here in my care.
This same day marks the beginning of living out our Hope in heartache. The day Zekey left our lives here on earth and left a hole in our hearts that only the Hope of heaven can fill up. The day we started looking towards our forever Home in Heaven with great desire. On this day, we stopped fearing death as Jesus took care of it and we are no longer afraid- Zekey isn’t dead, Zekey Lives!
March 23rd also marks the day my sweet brother Blade was born. My brother who we referred to as ‘Bookey’ growing up because he was so dang cute! He is hardworking and hilarious and I love my sister-in-law and their really precious little girls, my nieces. I will forever wish you so much love and joy on your birthday because you are a gift to our family, bud! Happiest birthday!
I can’t really fathom why Zekey had to meet Jesus on the same day as my brother celebrates his birthday except Zekey’s ‘Meeting Jesus’ verse is this:
Ezekiel 3:23 (March 23rd) “So I arose and went out into the valley, and behold, the glory of the Lord stood there, like the glory that I had seen by the Chebar canal, and I fell on my face.”
I know Zekey saw the glory of the Lord on this day 2 years ago and this verse brings great comfort to me and I think God knew it would.
I LOVE sharing our story of suffering turned redemption and Hope at conferences, to our neighbors or simply the people who ask how many children I have. Anyone who will listen- I have this amazing Savior, Jesus and most gracious and loving Heavenly Father!
I’m so proud of my Zekey. God has used this strong boy to share the Hope we have in Jesus- his short but powerful life has been and I believe will continue to move the hearts of men + women to also want to know this Hope beyond our worst fear, death only found in Christ alone.
Zekey’s life (birthday) verse (November 19th):
Ezekiel 11:19“And I will give them one heart, and a new spirit I will put within them. I will remove the heart of stone from their flesh and give them a heart of flesh,”
Zekey-Zoo-Zoo, we miss you. Every day we must remember we are not one day further from you, but one day closer to being together for eternity. We miss your smile, your laugh, even your mischievous ways of getting into everything. Your joy, strength, and light we carry in our hearts and will never stop having your name and story on our lips. We love you forever, Ezekiel Todd Holt <3 (Song and pictures at bottom)
In Christ alone my hope is found,
He is my light, my strength, my song;
This Cornerstone, this solid Ground,
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace,
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease!
My Comforter, my All in All,
Here in the love of Christ I stand.
In Christ alone! – who took on flesh,
Fullness of God in helpless babe.
This gift of love and righteousness,
Scorned by the ones He came to save:
Till on that cross as Jesus died,
The wrath of God was satisfied –
For every sin on Him was laid;
Here in the death of Christ I live.
There in the ground His body lay,
Light of the world by darkness slain:
Then bursting forth in glorious day
Up from the grave He rose again!
And as He stands in victory
Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me,
For I am His and He is mine –
Bought with the precious blood of Christ.
No guilt in life, no fear in death,
This is the power of Christ in me;
From life’s first cry to final breath,
Jesus commands my destiny.
No power of hell, no scheme of man,
Can ever pluck me from His hand:
Till He returns or calls me home,
Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand.
